Karen is Assistant General Counsel for the Private Infrastructure Development Group and provides legal and corporate governance support to the business. She also assists with the corporate secretarial function.
Previously, Karen was the General Counsel of the International Division of MBIA Inc., a financial services company headquartered in New York. Karen joined the MBIA legal department in 2007 and was responsible for regulatory, compliance, corporate, operational and transactional legal issues of its international subsidiaries. Karen was company secretary for the UK companies and a member of the Risk Oversight, Loss Reserve and Operational Risk Committees. She was the Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer for MBA UK.
Before moving in-house, Karen worked as a solicitor in private practice for over eight years. She joined Ashurst in 2002 where she gained experience in a broad range of banking and capital market transactions, representing sponsors and lenders on acquisition and international project financings. She also has experience of infrastructure projects financed through PFI/PPP initiatives across various industry sectors.
Karen completed her BA and LLB degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand and is qualified as an attorney in South Africa and as a solicitor in England & Wales.
