Delivering greener cities and infrastructure: MDY Legal’s role in new FCDO programme
MDY Legal is a core partner in the FCDO-funded Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme (GCIP), one of five “Centres of Expertise” being created by the UK Government. GCIP operates in alignment with the UK Government’s International Development Strategy, which outlines FCDO’s development goals, including the enhancement of investment partnerships to support the growth of secure, open, and prosperous economies in low and middle-income countries.
GCIP aims to unlock the transformative power of cities and infrastructure in developing countries to deliver responsible, inclusive, low-carbon and climate resilient infrastructure, and catalyse cities as hubs of innovation, social well-being, and sustainable economic growth. GCIP seeks to integrate the UK’s international infrastructure offer, demonstrating UK leadership on the global stage, and achieving ambitious results via critical research, policy development, institutional reforms and capability building.
GCIP will focus on policy support, technical assistance and capacity building to drive change. In doing so, it will help create a more conducive environment for leveraging UK and international finance. It will have a particular focus on ‘systems thinking’ for transformational change – in which the UK is a world-leader and political economy approaches which are critical to the delivery of successful infrastructure programmes.
Launched in 2023, this landmark programme is managed by a PwC-led Alliance that includes Mott Macdonald, Adam Smith International, Engineers Against Poverty and MDY Legal, harnessing the best of UK expertise and finance together with deep local partnerships to deliver improved infrastructure and investment in partner countries.
