MDY Legal plays key role in DFID-funded Infrastructure and Cities for Economic Development (ICED)

MDY Legal is a core partner in the DFID-funded Infrastructure and Cities for Economic Development (ICED), a catalytic facility designed to accelerate DFID’s infrastructure and cities initiatives across the world to contribute to poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth.

Launched in 2016, the facility is managed by a PwC-led Alliance that includes MDY Legal, Adam Smith International, Arup, Engineers Against Poverty, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and Social Development Direct (SDD).

MDY Legal works within ICED teams and has specifically contributed to the design of DFID’s key infrastructure and urban development programmes (including the global Cities and Infrastructure for Growth programme in seven countries). This has included undertaking country and/or sector diagnostics and scoping studies and setting clear business cases for DFID’s investment in urban and economic infrastructure programming in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.  Through ICED, MDY Legal is supporting DFID and other government departments (OGDs) to consider innovative finance approaches to facilitate public and private sector investment for large-scale infrastructure and urban development to achieve the sustainable development goals, through improved programming. MDY Legal has also provided support on the legal and governance aspects of DFID’s country programming with a particular focus on adaptive programming and working with World Bank Trust Funds, and on results monitoring, related reporting and wider learning and dissemination aspects of the ICED Facility.
